Commenting on the publication of the Furman Review – Dom Hallas, Executive Director of The Coalition for a Digital Economy (Coadec) said:

“Startups thrive in competitive markets by challenging the status quo – but too often, discussions on competition are dominated by large incumbents. It’s critical that startups and other stakeholders are let into that conversation. We welcome the report’s suggestion of an inclusive approach with the aim of genuinely creating more competition and not just more work for lawyers.

We welcome the call for coordination in the digital policy-making process in Government. With the Online Harms White Paper, fallout from the Cairncross Review, the Digital Services Tax, and of course Brexit coming – it’s critical the Government has a coordinated approach that provides what the committee describes as ‘a consistent, uncluttered landscape for businesses’ and prevents regulation becoming an accidental barrier to competition in digital markets.”
