We produced this in collaboration with Tech Nation, techUK and the Centre for Climate Change Innovation (CCCI), following discussions with over 100 leading climate startups.
This summer, we held a series of roundtable discussions with startups at the heart of pursuing Net Zero, from food sharing app Olio, to carbon off-set rating firm Sylvera, and energy firm Ripple. We asked startups what barriers they faced to growth, to get an idea of how the UK could better foster climate tech innovation. It is based on this extensive feedback, that we came up with 25 suggestions.
Recommendations include:
- Establishing a Government team focused on Net Zero opportunities
- Expanding their renewable energy scheme to help early stage startups
- Introducing a “waste” sandbox to help innovation within end of life materials
Last year, the UK’s climate-tech ecosystem raised over $4bn, positioning us well to be a global leader in the low-carbon future. It’s essential that the Government keeps prioritising these innovative firms if we have a chance of leadership as a green economy. With COP27 now in the rear view mirror, this coalition and our report provide a guide on how the Government can catalyse the adoption of technology that can help today, so that we can mitigate and adapt to climate change tomorrow.
